Are you having Inconvenience sleeping?

I often ask my clients if they think they sleep well enough. Continued lack of sleep or poor quality sleep can affect health and delay the rehabilitation process. Lack of sleep is also related to fatigue, forgetfulness, poor concentration, mood swings and decreased physical abilities. Sleep-deprived older people are at a higher risk of falling.
The average adult needs about eight hours of sleep per day (which can be a combination of a night’s sleep and a daytime nap).
Do you think sleep problems are just a natural part of aging and should you put up with them? Guess again. This is not normal and you should ask for help as there are things you can do.
Some common sleep problems and how to fix them
1.) PROBLEM: “I can’t go to bed and I can’t sleep because of the pain.”
Solution: Ask your physical therapist for a full exam and they will give you some suggestions. However, if the pain is so severe that you often wake up at night, you should see your GP to rule out a serious problem.
Each healthcare professional uses different tools to treat a patient’s pain. If a specialist in a pain clinic said “I can’t help you,” don’t give up. It doesn’t mean you have to endure the pain for the rest of your life. There are always possible solutions.
Stella’s story: One of my clients, 84, consulted me about her low back pain. His health problems include rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, spinal stenosis, and sciatica-like pain in the leg. Both knees and right hip had been replaced. Every night in bed, I kept tossing and turning, trying to find a comfortable position. Stella said: “I don’t know where it comes from, it’s on the back, the hips and even the legs.” Mobility: When he walked, he leaned heavily on his wheeled walker, his back was almost parallel to the ground. She couldn’t get out of a chair by herself. We both had a good chat to identify their biggest concerns. I conducted a thorough review and provided feedback.

Treatment: I was looking for a pain-free position for Stella and gave her some gentle movements to practice. I also gave him some manual therapy, it’s a practical technique for reducing pain, and I used dry needles.

Result: After three sessions of physical therapy, Stella said she started to feel the difference. You may get to bed faster. There were no more round and stiff because the pain had lessened. Eventually, she may get up from a chair on her own. After six to eight weeks of weekly physical therapy, Stella was able to walk much straighter and the nerve pain referring to her leg was gone. “I could go shopping with my husband, which I haven’t done in a long, long time,” she said.

Pain isn’t just part of the aging process. If pain is disturbing your quality of life, you need to deal with it.

2. ) PROBLEM: “I can’t fall asleep, my mind keeps working.”
Solution: Make it a habit to do any planning before bedtime. And only go to bed when you’re sleepy.

3.) PROBLEM: “I keep waking up to go to the bathroom. ”
If you have to wake up to urinate more than twice a night, that’s not normal. But there is no need to be ashamed, help is at hand.
